Mountain Home bikers enjoy our area’s curvy roads and scenic two-lane highways. Push Mountain Loop and Peel Ferry Route locally, and nearby Sylamore Scenic Byway, just to name a few. When you’re enjoying sweepers and sharp blind curves, you shouldn’t have to be worrying about uninsured drivers.
Sharing Two-Lane Roads in the Ozarks with Everyone Else
From the first warm weekends in spring all through the fall color run, locals and visitors to the area want to be enjoying the scenic drives. And at Affordable Insurance Inc, we’ve learned that a lot of folks may be paying more attention to the water and the scenery than they are to the shoulder of the road.
There’s no way for you to know if the vehicles in front of you and behind you have insurance coverage or not. You have to make sure you’re protected in case somebody less responsible than you is sharing the road with you.
Arkansas Law and Uninsured Motorist Coverage
The state’s law requires insurance companies to offer you uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage for your motorcycle insurance. The option to opt out shows up as another line on an insurance application, so it’s easy to sign without putting a lot of thought into what you might be giving up.
Property damage that an uninsured driver causes to your property is handled separately. It’s not automatically included with the bodily injury protection. So you need to be specific about selecting it.
The Gotcha in AR’s Real-Time Verification System
If your bike is registered in Arkansas and your coverage lapses, the state will send out a letter first. And from there, it moves on to suspending registration.
That system reads Arkansas plates just fine. But a truck from another state hauling a bass boat will come back as advisory status. That doesn’t tell a state trooper anything about the insurance they carry.
Make Sure You’re Covered Before Riding Season
Riding season here runs long. And the traffic mix changes every weekend between Memorial Day and the turn of the leaves. What worked for you three renewals ago may not match your riding needs now.
Call Affordable Insurance Inc so we can go over your motorcycle insurance policy with you and make sure you’ve got protection against someone’s lapsed policy.
