As the temperature goes down and the thermostat goes up, it is time to get your home ready for the cold weather.  As the days get shorter and you get out the sweaters, scarves, and mittens, it’s time to think about all the things that you need to do before the winter winds hit. Clear outdoor areas<\/h2>\n

If you have faucets that you use outdoors in warm weather, the danger of freezing weather becomes a reality. It is time to drain them and shut them off. While you are at it, bring in any hoses that might be outdoors. Time to take the outdoor lawn furniture and store it away until the warm weather returns. <\/p>\n

Get the furnace cleaned<\/h2>\n

Before it is time to turn on the furnace, it should be inspected and cleaned. This makes it more efficient and you won’t get an unpleasant surprise the first time you turn it on. Check the batteries on your carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector. <\/p>\n
